Israel revoked the entry authorization of Italian journalist Martina Stefanoni of Radio Popolare shortly before she was due to fly to Tel Aviv to report on Israel’s October 27 election. She had initially received both a visa and official accreditation from Israel’s Government Press Office.
Days before departure, Israel revoked her authorization, giving only a terse explanation: “the circumstances relating to her case have changed.” Radio Popolare says it asked the relevant ministry for an explanation but received none. The station’s director, Lorenza Ghidini, called it “intolerable censorship” by “the country that calls itself the only democracy in the Middle East.”
