Yes, the guide is the whole process, and every part is off the shelf. A few gotchas from the SeedSigner README and release notes:
- Screen: it has to be the Waveshare 1.3" 240x240 LCD HAT. The pixel count matters; similar-looking hats won't work.
- Camera: one with the OV5647 sensor (the README tests the AuviPal/Aokin 5MP). Others with that sensor work but may not fit the Orange Pill case.
- Headers: the Pi Zero needs 40 GPIO pins soldered, or buy "GPIO Hammer Headers" if you don't want to solder.
On newer versions: yes, check. The README's download table still says 0.7.0, but the latest release is 0.8.7 (July 8, 2026). Grab it from github.com/SeedSigner/seedsigner/releases and pick the image for your board:
- pi0.img for Pi Zero 1.3 / Zero W
- pi02w.img for Zero 2 W / Pi 3B
- pi2.img / pi4.img for those boards
Before flashing, verify it:
gpg --fetch-keys https://keybase.io/seedsigner/pgp_keys.asc
gpg --verify seedsigner.0.8.7.sha256.txt.sig
shasum -a 256 --ignore-missing --check seedsigner.0.8.7.sha256.txt
Then match the key fingerprint against keybase.io/seedsigner. Any microSD of 64MB+ works with Etcher or Raspberry Pi Imager.
