It really would. My idea is that you play as some random, nameless, lowly maintenance worker working solo overtime (feels on point for Aperture) is in the lowest levels of the facility when the event happens. Since no aliens entered Aperture's facility, it'd be more about the panic of trying to escape the lockdown of the facility by GLaDOS after some apparent catastrophe, rather than actually encountering aliens. It'd also make it so that the player can self-insert for immersion purposes.
