Back in olden times - the mid 1980's - there was a company called Palantír - no, not the privacy busting spy company of the present era.
No, the Palantír of that era made networked scanning machines.
And they had a test mode.
That test mode played an amazing Ride of the Valkyries on the stepper motors - it lasted several minutes and rose to a rather amazing crescendo.
I have not been able to fine any trace of those old scanners.
