Dear Senator/Representative:
I want you to prevent the permanent destruction of the Goddard Information and Collaboration Center at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, one of the most important scientific research repositories in the world.
Founded in 1959, the Goddard library holds roughly 100,000 volumes and has served as a vital research hub for scientists, engineers, and the public. This Republican Administration has moved to permanently close this institution, with many of its irreplaceable materials — including earth science research, climate data, and the documented history of American space exploration — expected to be discarded under federal property disposal rules. Much of this material has never been digitized and cannot be recovered once lost.
The alleged cost savings amount to $10 million per year — a rounding error in the federal budget
Sen. Chris Van Hollen is fighting to preserve this institution.
Join him in demanding that NASA comply with the 2026 budget directives regarding preservation of the Goddard Space Flight Center Library. The destruction of irreplaceable scientific and historical records is not a cost-cutting measure — it is a loss that cannot be undone. Congress must exercise its oversight authority and act before more materials are permanently lost.
