A true story
Once upon a time, a particular political party was broke. They held a secret meeting & invited titans of industry to be there.
The party leader said, "You know, business cannot survive in a democracy."
So the titans opened their coffers & "gave lavishly to this political party, saving it from financial ruin."
This happened in 1933. The German Nazi party was literally "bailed out by German industrialists" (US too).
