If the app is small enough, you could make a POC or MVP in both to compare them.
Otherwise, the choice is between getting it done with what you know (Java) or intentionally practicing something you want to learn (Rust).
I'd be curious to see GraalVM's performance, especially for a CLI where start-up time is significant - Rust usually has an advantage there.
