Why? Why in the name of all that is fucking unholy would anyone want or even need a smart toaster?
The only useful augmentation to the basic toaster was the introduction of an internal disconnect when the unit was not engaged. It prevents electrical shock when the unit is off, in the event the electrical outlet the toaster is connected to is reverse polarity.
In the oldest toasters, if the plug's polarity was reversed, the heating coils remained connected to the hot wire, and if you touched them when the unit was off, your body became the ground. Modern toasters disconnect both sides of the element when the unit is not engaged.
This is as advanced as toasters ever needed to be.
