Oh, I could have kept going. Mostly. Sort of. The real reason I quit was that I was having to take 1-2 minute rest breaks every quarter mile due to the heat, so my average pace got slower. And that extra time meant I was no longer carrying enough water. And I didn't have easy access to the river (or a gas station) for a refill.
The math just wasn't there. Luckily, by the time I decided to bail, I still had enough water to get out 😬.
