It's a lie, a craven and treacherous lie, that the "generative #AI" people are selling, and yet...TO THIS [expletive deleted] DAY, U.S. business and technology #journalism (qq.v. Ars Technica (npub15wh…e9hw), [@forbes](https://flipboard.com/@forbes ), etc.) generally permits the tech execs to tell their lies and sling their deceptive buzzwords without challenge.
There's some *honest* reportage out there of course, I've read some of it, but the prevailing attitude of U.S. media towards genAI is uncritical, apparently uninterested in the truth about how LLMs function and what's actually going on under the surface—they don't even want to acknowledge that LLMs have no ability to reason and therefore can't be trusted *not* to confabulate.
