The Swedish Writers' Union collects statistics on how much Swedish publishers pay for translations. These stats are pretty encouraging: almost nobody seems to pay much less than the Union's recommended minimum rate.

This is survivorship bias, you know, the WW2 aircraft thing.

Translators do work at much lower rates. But they don't report these figures to the Writers' Union, because they are ashamed to be letting the side down, effectively as strike breakers.
