M'y experience trying to run Volumio on an old raspberry pi 2 I had lying arou has been so far pretty disastrous.
If booted without Ethernet connected, it's supposed to start a hotspot using the discovered wifi adapter if compatible. It did, then it disappeared and then a second different hotspot appeared. Connecting to it and giving it credentials for my home wifi never once worked. I tried a bunch of times.
I eventually connected to the network using a cable.
