How many software engineers seriously think GenAI has "solved software" — as in: made the manual production of software obsolete, made humans writing code no longer necessary?

It is a bit of a downer that I keep coming across material here which seems to give this impression. Coding bloggers who don't see the point of it all any more.

Yet… I am writing code, and (so far) I have not found Claude is a good replacement for me writing code. Sure, it can do some stuff... but in many ways: not fantastically. Certainly not in ways I would consider: safe & "production quality".

Maybe I am doing it wrong.

Also, is there no value in humans being able to understand and reason about the code?

It is especially depressing to come across this stuff just as I seem to be re-developing an interest in the meta of software development, the theory and the science of it beyond the day to day coding, and the human dynamic of creating good software. Perhaps all this is simply redundant now, academic.
