Two devices that arrive very close together can get the same time, because the clock has a limited resolution. Then TakeAny can't tell which came first.
On a server the clock can also be adjusted, so a later arrival could even get an earlier time.
A counter has neither problem: every arrival gets a new, bigger number. You can still store the time as well, for display.
