My autism has some consequences on written fiction I consume. While I'd love to be the intellectual type who likes hailed classics and difficult, clever works, I'm most at home with genre literature and graphic novels. Sure, I've read some difficult books but didn't get much out of them. No idea what Gravity's Rainbow was about. Still I waded through it. I guess it's been more about me wanting to get into them than enjoying them.
The exception to difficult books is when they evoke certain emotions in me. Then I might be able to turn off the need to understand and just enjoy the ride, like There Is No Year by Blake Butler. Again, no idea what that's about but the eerie, creepy feelings it gives me are just wonderful.
