My point, though, is that a flat UBI in this political environment will more than likely be used as a ruse for eliminating all other income supports for poor, elderly, and disabled people; and if private companies retain the right to raise their prices or employers the right to reduce wages or benefits or even lay off workers because UBI is used as a "fall back", then any benefits would be quickly erased. $1,000 per month is still below poverty level.
