Subject: False binaries

Things are often framed as binary that really shouldn’t be...

1. Good and evil.
2. To blame and not to blame.
3. Meaning to and not meaning to.
4. Empathy and logic.
5. Subjective and objective.
6. Causal and not causal.
7. Living and non-living.
8. Real and not real.

Instead of being either at one opposite pole or the other, all these things exist only by degree, as points along a scale.

Often the mistake isn’t noticing differences - it's turning differences of *degree* into differences of *kind*.

I’m going to do a little thread on each one (which I'll then link here).

As usual, all thoughts on this very welcome indeed!
