Two main reasons: it’s smaller than my phone, so I can leave the phone in the house while weeding, or stored in a bike bag pocket when cycling to work. Also, I know the buttons by touch, and can change volume or start/stop/skip by feel. Downloading to the computer first means I have a chance to archive important podcasts without taking up space on the phone. I guess I’m also resistant to making my phone the center of my existence!
