I remember a world of new horizons, new connections, being able to chat with cool people all over the world; sending messages and getting an almost instant reply.

Where a digital scream to The Old Gods and a boing-boing signified your arrival in the Brave New Digital Frontier.

A world where your age, sex & location was requested almost immediately (early age verification tech was quite easy to defeat..), where a personal website was a statement "I am here" accompanied by a very cheesy low bit chiptune of their favourite song.

Where "stranger-danger" went to die as folks travelled across the country to meet people they knew only in text (and maybe a low res webcam shot). In some cases crossed continents to do so.

A time before The Algorithm. Where things weren't being sold to you every second of every day.

Before Don't Be Evil was A Thing.

But I think I miss that world.
The one the Daily Heil described as a "fad" (good going Nostradumbass...).
