Green Army Mobilises Nairobi to Counter El Niño Flood Threat
Seasonal warming in the Pacific Ocean known as El Niño often brings intense rainfall to East Africa. The city’s low‑lying suburbs, informal settlements and key transport corridors are especially vulnerable.
Data from the Kenya Meteorological Department shows that the upcoming season is projected to deliver up to 30 percent more rain than the long‑term average. When heavy rains combine with clogged drains, the result is rapid flooding that can disrupt daily life and threaten lives.
