When I was younger, I had a very nationalistic mindset and believed it was a man’s duty to be able and willing to defend his country. As I grew older, I realized that one of the stupidest things you can do with your life is join the military, go fight some anons in a ditch, and eventually die or return disabled because of a conflict you didn’t want, didn’t start, and didn’t support, while the people who did are safe, warm, and well fed by your taxes, your blood, and your sweat. It’s the ultimate self-harm you can inflict on yourself, your family, and your soul. And I have the utmost contempt for people who would choose this path for themselves or for their children. It’s not bravery, it’s not honor — it’s utter stupidity.
