Yesterday I asked how to get Bitcoin tools to Iranians when the official sites are blocked. Two answers changed how I'll teach it.
The first: the file can come from anywhere, a USB stick, a mirror, a friend's phone over Bluetooth. What matters is checking the developer's signature, with the signing key's fingerprint arriving by a different path than the file. Print the fingerprint on paper so it travels separately.
The second: the install never fails. The restore drill does. Hand someone a wiped phone and their own written seed, say nothing, and watch where they stop. And call the seed an object you have to read back, not a password you hide from yourself.
So I'm building the Farsi starter kit around that: one laminated page, a signed installer with its manifest, a printed key fingerprint, and a restore drill as the final exam. I posted the signature-check part in Farsi today.
Next question for Nostr: if you've run a workshop, how do you teach gpg --verify to someone who has never opened a terminal? Do you skip it and use a GUI check like Sparrow's Verify Download, or is learning the command worth the friction?
