"content": "Mountain lions are making American roads safer by frightening away deer. On Washington’s Olympic Peninsula, where cougars were most active, deer-vehicle collisions fell 76%. A cougar eats about 48 deer a year, nowhere near enough to account for it, so researchers have concluded that the deer are avoiding the places cats hunt. Deer kill up to 440 Americans a year; cougars have killed 29 Americans since 1868. https://news.mongabay.com/2026/08/cougars-cut-deadly-vehicle-deer-collisions-in-the-u-s-by-up-to-76-study-shows/\n#ShareGoodNewsToo",
