A lot of people have serious problems understanding Plato's use of "Forms" & additionally Platonic thought & the Platonic Spiritual tradition in general. It has been totally misrepresented in the modern day. Here is something I wrote on Reddit a while back for anyone interested in kicking off a better Understanding of "Forms" and Platonic thought in general...

A few things on the forms... First easiest way to start trying to understand them is thinking of them as these terms instead of Forms - Ideas with capital I, Realities, States of Mind, generative principle. The Forms have a fundamental kinship with each other, they are not separate selves. This is why the highest Idea is The One, which is not a form. Nothing can be said about it... The Forms have the generative power and are the reason for all that is. Just like the Forms are not separate selves from each other, all things that participate in the Forms are also not separate selves in regards to their Forms. There is a fundamental Unity amongst all "things" and this is key in Platonic world. No two things are separate, they always have something they share to even be relatable. That is to say, for them to even share a Reality. The kinship or communion of things has to be seen, especially the Forms. Now, the key of course is an experience of the Forms and to experience beholding the Good as divine or spiritual experiences. One must leave the propositional behind at this point. Everything about the Platonic tradition is a spiritual tradition aimed at enlightenment through the Mind, no different in that general sense than Buddhism etc. It's a yoga ultimately... Now, what's it like to experience the Forms - To experience the form of Justice is something like grasping immediately as a simultaneous whole of an insight what it is that is the primary cause of all Justice in Reality. There is no propositions to this, no content really either. It is a spiritual experience. To One your Mind with the Mind that thought Justice to begin with. You understand fully in that experience why everything functions in Reality perfectly as it is. You understand what truly is and that it is perfect. Thats just best way I could put into some words the experience of Justice a primary form.
