Some of us *did* learn Software Engineering & not just hacking on shit until the demo looks OK, or lying & getting someone/something else to do it.
Not everyone, for sure. Standards fell off enormously after the '70s-80s, when programming became "popular".
But not everyone's an incompetent asshole.
