Precisely - in my dad’s case it was not about the pump making it 21°C inside when it was -10°C outside, but more of keeping it at ambient 16°C and it does a great job at it. Then, if then want it warmer at the evening, they’d fire up the fireplace with limited air flow to keep it cozy in the living room.
I completely don’t understand the right-wing phobia of heat pumps that is somewhat present in Poland - they just work. In my life I’ve used everything, starting from coal, and the need to carry coal buckets to an old tile coal heater, or bags of coal for the automatic feeder is just… exhausting and dirty. Gas, as we saw in 2021, is not economically stable. Wood is local but requires a whole lot of processing - drying, cutting, carrying etc - and it burns in a minute. And when you’re 70+ these are all the last things you want to do on daily basis - or actually, not “want to”, but have to.
Heat pump just works. The only disadvantage is that it depends on electricity which in rural areas may be interrupted due to storm or heavy snowfall, but these days it doesn’t usually take more than 2-3 days, so it’s good to keep some backup.
