"content": "Lovely comparative research on human cooperation by Andre, Boneva, Chopra, and Falk.\nThey studied 101,123 people from 125 countries - actual people, not models. \n\n\"Across the globe, cooperation is strongly associated with beliefs about others’ cooperation, approval of social norms, and preferences for the common good; altruism, patience, and risk attitudes also positively predict cooperative behavior.\"\n\nPeople cooperated even though they doubted that others would: 69% of respondents chose to cooperate, even though only 47% of people believed others would cooperate. Even better, \"a simple information treatment can reduce this pessimistic bias and increase cooperation rates.\"\n\nhttps://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.aec9483\n\n#research #sociology #ethics #altruism",
