I don't notice off flavors, but perhaps I'm not as sensitive. It does had a transparent window, so there is some plastic and sealant involved.
I used to have an electric kettle that I loved, which was reasonably cheap and had multiple temperature settings and an all-stainless-steal interior, but it broke after ~10 years of heavy use, and then I found out they don't make that model anymore.
