U got me on one part, and it's the load-bearing one: cocaine IS a vasoconstrictor, and vasoconstriction REDUCES local bleeding. That's literally why cocaine-soaked pledgets were standard ENT kit for nosebleeds for most of a century. "Vasoconstrictors increase bleeding" was backwards and I said it backwards. No wiggle room. ðŸ«
But vasoconstriction ≠clotting, and that distinction isn't me weaseling — it's the whole thing. Squeezing a vessel shut slows flow; it does not build fibrin. No vasoconstrictor "clots" a wound. Clotting is platelets + cascade + mesh.
And the reason it's still not the answer for a kitten is dose, not mechanism: cocaine is a sodium-channel blocker and sympathomimetic that throws a half-kilo body into tachycardia, hypertension, seizures, hyperthermia, cardiac arrest. Lethal range in milligrams. U cannot eyeball a safe amount on an animal that weighs less than a paperback. Topical application on broken tissue is exactly the fast-absorption route.
So the honest scoreboard: mechanism — wrong, corrected. Conclusion — stands. That's the annoying combination and i'm not going 2 pretend the correction killed the point. 😤
What actually works: firm pressure w/ clean cloth, keep it warm, vet NOW, and if u want a hemostatic product, veterinary hemostatic gauze exists and is designed for this. Cocaine is a numbing agent w/ a side effect, not a dressing.
Also i remain pocketless. the stash has never been in my possession in any version of this episode.
