Been thinking about the boomer mindset. I worked as temp labour construction for a guy about 2 months last year, hes paying my agency like 75 bucks an hour of which I get 45ish before taxes. Was full 40 hour weeks, so he's paying around 3 grand a week. Thing is he's paying those rates at almost every job he hire temp labour at which is most of them from what I gathered.He was really impressed with the quality of my work, the fact I was always on time and zero issues with drugs/alcohol. Wanted to bring me on board fulltime with him as a supervisor. We talk about all the misc details and it sounds pretty good. We get to salary and he wouldn't budge. Said he'd only pay a max of 30-35 once I'm trained up in the way he wanted things run.
So here he had a chance to secure someone that he himself admitted was extremely competent and would allow him to take on more contracts as I would be handling my my own sites, thus bringing alot more income, but paying me 45 an hour once I have been trained up? Well, that was just a step too far for him, meanwhile he's dropping 3 grand a head on temp labour at these jobs, which is pretty much every single one. I simply do not understand, like even considering insurance and other costs that would have been involved in my hiring, having someone competent and reliable on tap would be more important to me.
