"What are they?" I asked my host, the owner of the cottage where I was staying in Cornwall.

"This is a hob," my host said, indicating the stovetop. "Goblins on the hob are hobgoblins." She sighed. "We've also got knobgoblins on our doorknobs, fobgoblins on our key & watch fobs, & my husband Robert's got both Rob & Bobgoblins hanging from his ears & elbows.
