I bought myself something nice recently.
It's called a "brace and bit drill". It's a type of human-powered drill that dates back centuries.
This one has a 10-inch "sweep". That is, the handle that rotates around the central axis is 5 inches from that central axis, providing lots of torque.
So far it's been a joy to use. I can auger a 1/2" hole through 3/4"s of softwood in less than 20 seconds, and it's like cutting through vegan butter. Very stimmy. 🤗
A friend's partner has a lathe, and might be interested in crafting wood components to replace the two black plastic (🤮) ones. >__> Excited to see if this works out!
Aaaah, I love hand tools so much. ^__^ I hope it lasts a very long time.
