1. GMO Posts $1 Million Bounty to Catch Hackers Behind Trading-Cloud Breach
-- GMO Internet Group opened a bounty of up to $1 million on October 28 for tips leading to an arrest or an international wanted notice over the breach of its Onamae Desktop Cloud service; the group refused an extortion demand of about $50 million, counts 26,739 servers as potentially affected and says the attackers began publishing customer material on October 27.
-- Payment follows arrests rather than data recovery, and the leak has already reached third parties: brokers OANDA Japan and FXTF said logins stored for MetaTrader trading were used to log in and trade in customer accounts, so GMO is offering ¥5,000 per user plus confirmed unauthorised trading losses instead of restoring the breached servers as they are.
