Dude horses are notorious for testing their riders. Most riders fail. That's what happened with my sister on that Grand Canyon mule ride. She let the mule do whatever it wanted.
And grain is a high energy feed so it's not surprising that he was energetic. Obviously energy is a good thing to have on a demanding ride. (1/3)
