I finally met a particular Famous Internet Personage tonight, we have mutual friends, in same San Francisco scenes but near zero temporal overlap. At a friends art show on echo Park

Huge AI believer, and libertarian-ish capitalist. Tried to tell me our then punk scene didnt have more money because we didnt know how to monetize our non tangible stuff (culture). Resisted the idea our decisions were then openly considered and intentional (omfg no idea how much theory we inflicted on ourselves, lol).

He did a terrible job of trying to flatten out ethics (you carry a cellphone, has child labor cobalt in it type whataboutism), changed subject when i repeatedly pointed out all four big ai corps openly court fascists. The answer to everything was that AI will solve it.

He was taken aback by my suggestion that amateurism is in itself a good thing (because denies monetization).

Im certain he thought i was a reactionary old fart. Very dismissive when i pointed out my/friends lived experience was not as he described.

Hopefully our paths will not cross again for another 30 years.
