git's model is completely tied down to files of text with short lines. a very reasonable assumption for code, but terrible for everything else. to me, a meta VCS that allows common parts and maybe database formats to be shared would be reasonable, but a lot of things would need to be reworked, and each component (not specifically code, more assets and data and such) should be in individual repositories
