I blame Spiro Agnew. He started it, in 1970, coining the phrase “liberal news media." It took 55 years (with a couple decades of retrenchment but no surrender.) And now we have it all: internment camps, secret police, political prisoners, unprovoked assaults on citizens by armed federal forces, and repression of the press, law, courts, universities, medicine, culture, and arts.

(Of course, he was a convicted felon.)
