Automated snippet scanning in software composition analysis tools makes this a non-trivial liability issue for software products, even if you don't see it as a legitimate ethical concern.

The tools to detect this sort of thing are becoming increasingly available to copyright trolls, so it's not something I would dismiss lightly, particularly if I'm releasing code open source.
