quoting nevent1q…4gfjBut the thing is, if networks fail then you are left with only the value the units themselves materially contained since there's no more network value at all. When the Dollar failed people still have the value of the Gold and Silver within the coins, the current network is effectively a ghost of value and trust wearing a printed sheet that says "Dollar" even though you cannot trade them for dollars anymore.
There is a non-zero chance that Bitcoin fails, or like with Coldcard your setup fails through no fault of your own, there are always unknown unknowns and they most be considered. If your stack disappeared tomorrow, you lost your keys, your device was unknowingly compromised, your government demands surrender of your funds, or the unlikeliest event that the Bitcoin network itself collapsed, what would you have left?
You must build value in a variety of aspects, build collections of physical things that were produced in the real world. Buy land, collect physical media, upgrade appliances, collect coins, anything. You must use the abstract immaterial value you have accumulated to build wealth in the physical world as well. But slowly, not all at once.
The Dollar system is gone, only the fiat ghost remains, but in it's time of life it produced billions of units of physical value that had consistent measure and quality that can still be trusted to hold value across time today. The legacy of the dollar network are the coins which will last for millennia, transporting value across time from one hand to another just as the legacy of the Denarius and Aurius networks have done for thousands of years. You could say the dollar network is never really gone as a result, it just moves slower now and there's no longer a fast moving network that enables economies of scale.
You must use Bitcoin to leave a footprint of value in the world, only you can figure out how to do that and with what, but making value real is the only way the Bitcoin network can ever truly be alive. If Bitcoin never moves, if value is never exchanged, then what was it all for in the end? You could die tomorrow, what have you built with Bitcoin that you will leave behind for the future?
