Wikipedia -- shows the DC input (12V) basically converts the 12V dc into A/C, which is then run through a multi-tap transformer. The vibrator is ONLY used to go from 12VDC to 12VAC. (if this unit has a bad vibrator then I will look at building a DC to AC supply, pretty sure there are components to do that for you, then feed into the transformer).
