Before Dolly Parton died, Lindsay Ellis was working on a typically detailed, insightful video about Parton's life. Why is Parton so special?, she asked. Is she special at all? The conclusion was "Yes. Yes she is."
Among other things, Ellis compares Parton to other celebrity philanthropists. Parton stands out because her generosity substantially reduced her wealth. She wasn't a billionaire, but easily could have been. Also, much of her giving was done without fanfare.
