A final decision has been made to restart the 615 MWe Duane Arnold nuclear plant in Iowa! Plant owner NextEra has made a deal with Google, which will purchace the plant's power at an agreed price.
Google will use the power for local data centers. Iowa's largest utility, Central Iowa Power Cooperative, will buy any surplus power not used by Google.
Local support for restarting the plant is strong. Local communities will reap the benefits of large numbers of high-paying jobs and large contributions to the local tax base.
