Ouch. Our neighbour has a 3 year old Volvo. She climbed in the other day, heard a dreadful noise when she tried to start it, then a smell of burning.
Apparently the timing belt is shredded. It'll be nearly £900 to get the belt sorted, AFTER which they'll know of further damage has been done.
This isn't trivial, as life in rural here makes a car an absolutely necessity.
