If you modify your distribution by following internet tutorials, those changes now distinguish your system from upstream, putting it in unsupported state. In the future, when you've already forgotten that you made those changes an update may come that is incompatible with those changes and then all sorts of bad things may start happening.

If your #linux suddenly starts showing unexpected behaviour, it's helpful to know what you changed in the past. Otherwise it is okay to reinstall.
