I suspect the same, also something most miss is that the plague didn't appear all over the place at once, it took ~10 years in Europe and then many more outbreaks over the centuries.
The main issue and this is why I despise "The I love the fucking Science™" crowd is that we do not really know for sure what was the black death exactly and everybody pontificates about it, same as with the "Spanish Fluⓡ" and jews were involved in both.
