The Frighteners is a movie I really want to like, but it's just not very good. Very poor writing with practically non-existent characters and an overall disjointed narrative. Some of the effects are fun, some are really dated, but most of the humor just doesn't land. It's a not-very-funny, not-very-scary comedy horror film.
I mean, when Michael J. Fox isn't even charming in a role where he's supposed to be a charming conman, the director has done something very wrong.
