People worry about migrating from Linux/Windows because stuff they have is definitely not going to work out of the box on smaller systems. I appreciate that this indeed the case for many people. At the same time, BSDs and Haiku today are far, far more advanced than Windows and Linux ever were in the 1990s, heck, early 00s. And many of us still remember that computing back then wasn't all that bad.
So, it could be hard to downsize, but if you know that computers 20 years ago could do what you are doing with them now, then you can be more or less sure you can safely-ish migrate to a smaller OS.
I am not sure how to convince people that it is worth it to try. I am frankly still feeling lost and burned out by computers.
My personal plan is:
continue migration to BSD (I'll probably stick to NetBSD) for day to day stuff, coding, art and music,
consider that my gaming Windows VM and hobby MacOS laptop are at their final form; cut them off the internet (completely or mostly),
show some love to old PCs
