Today the LGB Courage Coalition testified in Ohio in support of HB 693. Afterward we wrote to the Democratic members who questioned us — as gays and lesbians — to say: you cannot pivot to bread and butter issues until the party reckons with this one.
We supported the idea of the transgender child without the medical evidence to back it. Country after country in Europe has now restricted these practices after systematic review. The evidence was never what we were told it was.
The path back to disaffected liberals runs directly through this issue. They are not going to set it aside. The party needs to be able to say: we got this wrong. Until it can, many of us cannot come home.
