So the new tiny home that arrived last month is a very well-designed and constructed contraption. But when we got some scaffolding ahead of mounting solar panels on the roof, I went up top to do a bit of measurement and assessment, and was appalled when I found rust.

This is a brand new Coloursteel roof, T-rib profile, that was towed from Auckland early in the year. There are dozens of chips in the coating and rust is forming in each of them. Exactly like what you would see on the front of a car that has done lots of kms on chipseal roads...but in one trip of under 500 km? See the photo for a closeup.

The owner of the home emailed the builder and expressed her concern. They came back with a recommendation to treat with a rust converter, spot prime and paint all the chips. They did not offer to do this under warranty. I'm encouraging her to press the issue and will probably go in to bat for her. This looks like a defective batch of roofing to me.
