Maybe it was over letter-writing and DDoS, maybe he's a bad customer / doesn't pay bills / etc. It's impossible to know.

I know this history and that's only a small part of it. Tankey-fedi blocks everything, even my dumb little site, so getting blocked by them is not some kind of badge of honor. Some of them develop client apps and were indeed petty enough to hardcode his domain name in their app, as they do for a few others like poa.st. But hey, since when have open source developers not been dumb petty drama queens?
All of this would have been fine for them because they can play victim and cultivate outrage in their base.
But what REALLY killed them on the fedi was actually Right Wing Fedi making fun of them.
@p@fsebugoutzone.org of famed FreeSpeechExtremist has the entire history of it. The super short version is they were using bots to spam gab posts out onto any fedi instance that wasn't banning them. This drew the ire of Fedi Grey Beards, who started mocking them, making fun of them, convincing their users to move, and so on - to the point where they ended up blocking some of fedi, and then eventually just cutting federation entirely.
They conveniently forget this part of the story and say it was just that they're victimized by the mentally ill tankies in left-fedi - which makes me question their story about how they got de-platformed from so many places as well.....
